Dental Implants: An Alternative to Bridges and Dentures
Carlyle Dental has met many residents of Lenoir County, NC, who believe that bridges and dentures are the only option for replacing their missing teeth. Traditionally, missing teeth have been replaced with bridges and dentures, but these solutions have some disadvantages over dental implants. Bridges can come loose and interfere with eating and talking. Dentures are not permanent and require special cleaning each day. Dental implants replace the root of the missing tooth, and a dental crown, or cap, is permanently affixed to the dental implant.
About the Procedure for Dental Implants
Dental implants are typically placed over the course of three appointments. During the first appointment, the root implant is placed into the jaw bone. Your jaw heals around the root implant over the next 6 to 12 weeks. During your second appointment, a small connector rod is placed on the root implant, and the dentist takes impressions of your mouth. The impressions are used to make the dental crown, which is adhered to the connector rod during your third appointment.
