Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of the teeth to improve one’s smile and appearance. Veneers can correct chipped, discolored, or irregularly shaped teeth. While resin can also be used to make veneers, porcelain is the more popular choice because it can resist stains better and it has light reflecting properties similar to that of natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are offered by Carlyle Dental to residents of Goldsboro, NC.
Porcelain Veneers Procedure
During the initial consultation, the teeth will be examined, and the patient will be asked about his or her desired results. The next visit to Carlyle Dental involves the preparation of the tooth for the placement of a veneer. Under local anesthesia, about 0.5 mm of enamel from the tooth surface will be removed to accommodate the veneer. To create the veneer, an impression of the trimmed tooth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory. Depending on the needs and preferences of the patient, a temporary veneer may be placed in the meantime.
When the porcelain veneer is ready, its size, shape, and color will be checked and adjusted as needed. Special cement that is activated by a light beam will be placed on the veneer to permanently bond it to the tooth.
Porcelain Veneers Results
Porcelain veneers provide the teeth with a natural appearance and are stronger and more aesthetically appealing than dental crowns. The gum tissues also tolerate porcelain well, so gum irritations are not likely to occur. If you would like to learn more about porcelain veneers, contact Carlyle Dental.
